Departing from Edinburgh Waverley station, travel north through the former Kingdom of Fife as you pass the spectacular scenery before reaching Boat of Garten where you will stay overnight. Your second day will be spent exploring the Scottish Highlands; visit the Rothiemurchus Estate where you can experience fishing or clay-pigeon shooting, discover the beautiful Cairngorms National Park and visit one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries with a tour and tasting. Enjoy a gala dinner onboard on the second evening before travelling back to Edinburgh the following day.

Itinerary
Day 1
Edinburgh to Boat of Garten
Board the celebrated red and gold carriages of the Royal Scotsman train at Edinburgh Waverley Station in the afternoon with an estimated departure of 13:45. Settle into your opulent cabin and admire the spectacular landscapes as you head north through the former Kingdom of Fife and into the dramatic scenery of the Highlands. As evening falls it is time to dress for dinner, where guests are expected to dress ‘smart casual with a touch of elegance’. Enjoy dinner which includes wine, coffee, tea and petits fours in one of the beautiful dining cars, followed by entertainment in the Observation Car. You will reach the village of Boat of Garten where the train will pause overnight. (D)

Day 2
Rothiemurchus & the Scottish Highlands
Wake up to the majestic views of the Highlands and head to the restaurant car for a hearty full Scottish breakfast. Alight the train and travel by coach to Rothiemurchus Estate. Located in the heart of the stunning Cairngorms National Park, the estate provides a magical backdrop to try a spot of clay-pigeon shooting or fishing. Rejoin the train for lunch and continue to Culloden Battlefield for a private tour. In the evening discover Strathisla Distillery, one of Scotland’s oldest working distilleries which produces one of the country’s best-known whiskies. After a tour and tasting, head back on board the Royal Scotsman and enjoy stunning panoramas as you journey through Aberdeenshire and Angus. A gala dinner is served this evening en route to Dundee, a festive finale to your Scottish rail adventure.

Return Edinburgh
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as you leave Dundee. Take in the final vistas before returning to Edinburgh and disembarking the Royal Scotsman at approximately 09:40.
