Step aboard the iconic Royal Scotsman for a once-in-a-lifetime journey through the heart of Scotland’s Western Highlands. Depart Edinburgh on Day 1 as the train joins the West Highland railway line and passes Loch Lomand and Glen Falloch – admire the spectacular scenery from the comfort of your cabin. During your second day, see the Isle of Skye’s dramatic Cuillin Mountains from Morar Sands, visit the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct as well as the Jacobite memorial and visit Steall Waterfall, a beautiful landmark of Nevis Glen. On Day 3, travel to the picturesque Isle of Bute to visit an estate house before travelling back to Edinburgh on your final day onboard the Royal Scotsman.

Itinerary
Day 1
Edinburgh & Loch Lomond
Step aboard the vintage carriages of the Royal Scotsman at Edinburgh Waverley station and depart at approximately 14:00. Head west through Falkirk before reaching Craigendoran where the train will join the West Highland Line. An indulgent afternoon tea will be served onboard as you catch a first glimpse of Loch Lomand, one of Scotland’s most iconic lochs. As the train climbs through Glen Falloch, admire the area’s many waterfalls before reaching the village of Spean Bridge for the night. Enjoy dinner which includes wine, coffee, tea and petits fours in one of the beautiful dining cars, followed by entertainment in the Observation Car.

Day 2
Glenfinnan & Fort William
Enjoy breakfast as the train continues west passing through the West Highlands’ largest town, Fort William, and admire the views of Ben Nevis from your cabin. Later that morning, disembark at Arisaig and take a walk at Morar Sands where you can take in the vistas of the majestic Cuillin Mountains on the Isle of Skye. Lunch is served onboard as the Royal Scotsman retraces its route back to Fort William and passes iconic sites such as the Glenfinnan Viaduct. Learn about the history of the Glenfinnan Monument, a moving tribute to those who lost their lives during the 1745 Jacobite Rising. Enjoy some light bites and drinks at the traditional Old Station Restaurant located at Spean Bridge Railway Station. You will also have the opportunity to walk through to Nevis Glen to see the cascading Steall Waterfall, if you are feeling energetic. Back onboard, dinner will be served as you travel south towards the small Argyll village of Bridge of Orchy. After your meal, enjoy drinks and entertainment in the Observation Car.

Day 3
Isle of Bute
Today’s destination is the charming Isle of Bute, an island in the Frith of Clyde which is divided into highland and lowland areas. Take a visit to the charming Mount Stuart, a Victorian Gothic house with arguably the finest collection of family portraits in Scotland. Travel to Wemyss Bay, a coastal villages in Inverclyde before enjoying a final gala dinner on board the train.

Day 4
Return Edinburgh
Enjoy your final breakfast as the Royal Scotsman makes it way back to Edinburgh passing through the magical scenery of the Western Highlands.
