Horse Riding
Whilst the Three Bars Ranch offers a wide variety of different activities, an unrivalled riding program is what puts Three Bars in a class of its own. The riding program was developed and is overseen directly by the Beckley Family. The perfect combination of great horses, beautiful riding terrain, and the experience of world class horsemen is really what sets the riding experience here aside from other ranches. With over 110 horses, the horse-to-guest ration at the Three Bars Guest Ranch is over 2-to-1, allowing the wranglers to pair you with a horse perfect for your individual riding ability and level of experience. The horses range from kid’s horses that are ideal for youngsters to safely experience riding on horseback for the first time, all the way through to young horses suitable for more experienced riders in search of a challenging mount. So, whether you’re an old hand or someone who needs a little hand, you can be sure you will enjoy your time in the saddle. Once you are paired up with your horse, it will be yours for the entire duration of your stay on the ranch. Each morning, he will be ready and waiting for you to ride him, and you will also keep hold of the same saddle for the week too. While riding is an extremely popular activity for guests to get involved in, it is never mandatory. Some guests ride at every opportunity, whereas other guests may choose to ride only once or twice during their holiday. Rides are planned out and arranged with guests by the head wrangler during the meal before. Ride options include family rides, adult rides, kids' rides, walking rides and fast rides. The first rides of the day leave from the corral straight after breakfast and then arrive back at the ranch in time for a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, the rides leave the corrals between one and half past one. For experienced riders, fast rides are offered after one full day of riding experience at the Three Bars Ranch. A full day ride is offered to all guests once a week, where lunch will be packed and enjoyed on the trail, and a breakfast ride is organised once a week also, where you will depart from the ranch earlier than the usual morning rides, and stop for a delicious hot breakfast on the trail. The trails ridden from the Three Bars Ranch will take you through truly diverse landscapes of high mountain scenery and along the banks of St Mary's River. Over 75,000 acres of extremely beautiful land begs to be explored on horseback. The Three Bars Ranch require all guests (adults and children) to wear riding boots for safety. If you and your family do not have your own pair of riding boots, you can rent cowboy boots from the ranch store.
Children
Children of all ages will have the holiday of a lifetime here at the Three Bars Ranch. Here they are safe to enjoy wide open spaces and just have fun being kids, whether they are catching frogs, toasting marshmallows over an open fire, or enjoying horseback riding for the first time. The children's programme is designed to keep kids of all ages busy throughout the day and into the night, with activities such as hiking and rafting for all the family to enjoy together, plus a kids' riding programme which allows parents to enjoy an adult only ride. The petting zoo allows children the opportunity to feed the sheep and gather eggs from the chickens. As the Three Bars Ranch is so small, a custom holiday experience can be organised. Children must be at least six years old to ride at the ranch. If you want your children to wear helmets whilst riding, you will need to take your own.
Activities and Facilities
Your stay at the ranch includes a river float trip. During the Spring months, when the water is higher, a local white water rafting outfitter will collect you at the lodge, later in the season this becomes more of a river float. Two afternoon hikes are offered per week. Join in an easy short hike along the creek to Marysville water falls. This is an easy hike anyone can do along a developed trail with boardwalks, steps and hand rails. For those who would like a more natural hike and a chance to get your heart rate up a bit come along on a hike to Perry Creek waterfalls. The Three Bars Ranch is located just a short distance away from St Mary's River, which is thought of as one of the best dry fly fisheries in North America. Catches up for grabs include rainbow trout, cut throats and bull trout. The ranch has fly fishing equipment available for guests to use. Fishing season opens on 15th June, but the later in the season you come, the better the fishing.
