Arrive at Guwahati airport in India’s northeastern state of Assam and transfer to Pandu Port to board your Assam Bengal Navigation river cruise on the Lower Brahmaputra River. The mighty Brahmaputra River snakes through the heart of north east India and defines this underexplored region of pristine national parks and spectacular scenery. Explore the lower part of the Brahmaputra on this 8-day river cruise itinerary with Assam Bengal Navigation. During this itinerary visit Assam’s textile centre of Sualkuchi where you will encounter the silk production process from start to finish. Other highlights include the state’s oldest Hindu temples in Tezpur, a float trip down the Jia-Bhoreli River where there will be excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, a visit to Nameri National Park located in the foothills of Arunachal Pradesh and a traditional Indian cookery class. The river cruise also includes two days of exploration in the magnificent Kaziranga National Park.

Visit the 6th century ruins of Da Parbatia in Tezpur on the bank of the Brahmaputra. One of Assam’s oldest Hindu temples, Da Parbatia offers spectacular artwork and carvings from the Ahom period.
Kaziranga National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is famous for its population of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros as well as Indian elephant, water buffalo and tiger. Take a jeep safari to search for the diverse wildlife.

Itinerary: Cruising the Lower Brahmaputra - From Guwahati to Silghat
This morning continue cruising upstream as you pass lush green fields and jungle-clad hills rising on either side. Stop at rural riverside villages and meet local communities who will offer an insight into their everyday life and the importance of agriculture in the region. Back onboard enjoy a cooking demonstration where you will learn about regional ingredients and techniques and help master traditional Indian recipes. Today cruise to Tezpur, a city on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, where you will spend the day exploring. After lunch visit the 6th century ruins of Da Parbatia, one of Assam’s oldest Hindu temples which offers spectacular artwork and carvings from the Ahom period. Later that afternoon explore Tezpur by cycle-rickshaw where highlights include Cole Park which is home to beautiful medieval stone carvings and a bustling traditional market. After an early breakfast travel by road to Nameri National Park located in the foothills of Arunachal Pradesh, the former North East Frontier Agency. Transfer to a smaller vessel and take a float trip down the Jia-Bhoreli River where there will be excellent wildlife viewing opportunities including an abundance of birds including great hornbills and elephants feeding on the riverbank. After lunch take a gentle walk through part of the park to admire the beautiful scenery before returning to the ship. Continue upstream passing rural villages and stretching bridges before arriving at Silghat where you will moor for the night. (B/L/D)
Today you will visit the spectacular Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is home to the world's largest population of the one-horned rhinoceros. Embark on a morning jeep safari where you will visit the park’s Central Range for the chance to see an abundance of animal and bird life. Home to grasslands and marshy swamps, this biodiversity-rich park also houses Bengal tiger, water buffalo, langur, elephant and bison as well as diverse birdlife including the Oriental honey buzzard, Himalayan griffon and white-tailed eagle. Back onboard enjoy a traditional Indian dinner with the beautiful river scenery as the background. (B/L/D)
This morning visit a local tea garden to sample some of the region’s finest tea as well as exploring a weekly traditional market. In the afternoon take another jeep safari to Kaziranga National Park where this time you will explore the less-visited Eastern Range which is one of the best places to see the one-horned rhino as well as the mighty water buffalo. After breakfast disembark the ship and bid farewell to your fellow passengers and crew. Take a four-hour drive back to Guwahati airport where we can arrange onward travel through India or flights back to the UK. (B)
