A Short River Cruise Between Saigon and Phnom Penh

Vietnam is home to over 2,000 rivers. These are the lifeblood of the country and have played an integral part throughout Vietnam’s extensive history. Rivers such as the Mekong, Perfume and Red River performed extremely important roles as trade routes with China and the rest of Southeast Asia for hundreds of years, whereas more recently the rivers have been used extensively in the country’s defense during both the First Indochina War and the more recent Vietnamese War. Today river cruises are a popular way to explore the rural countryside and remote villages of Vietnam offering exclusive access to local communities and spectacular scenery not accessible by land. Take a Mekong cruise down the twisting waterways and mangroves of the tropical Delta into Cambodia visiting floating markets and Buddhist temples along the way. Alternatively, a lesser known river cruise option is the Red River in northern Vietnam. Combine the spectacular Ha Long Bay with a cruise through the country’s rural northern provinces to discover the mountainous landscapes, emerald rice terraces and hill tribe groups. Both Pandaw and Heritage Line are excellent choices for a river cruise in Vietnam.
