Sitting at the heart of the Caucasus, Armenia is located in one of the world's most important crossroads. Often desired and regularly conquered, it has a long unique history heavily influenced by neighbours Russia, Turkey and Iran. Deeply spiritual, this is a land of ancient monasteries, grand churches and fine forts all centred on the charming and cosmopolitan city of Yerevan.

Home to over 4,000 monasteries and churches, these landmarks are an integral part of a holiday to Armenia and visiting them helps contribute to their preservation as well as sustaining local communities. Highlights include the 9th century Tatev Monastery with spectacular mountain views, Khor Virap which is framed by the snow-capped Mount Ararat, Sevanavank located on the shore of Lake Sevan, the medieval monastery of Geghard and ancient Echimiadzin, headquarters of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

The entirety of Armenia is located in the South Caucasus and is a great destination for rural hiking, and for dedicated walkers, challenging treks to remote monasteries. Dilijan National Park is often compared to the Swiss Alps with its green meadows and dense forest dotted with traditional churches, and the local town of Dilijan, is just as charming known for its well preserved 19th century traditional homes and craftmanship. Armenia is also easily combined with neighbouring Georgia as an overland journey through the dramatic Caucasus. Scattered across Armenia’s peaceful lands are Christian places of worship and crumbling religious relics, many in remote locations surrounded by beautiful scenery.
