Japan Wildlife Holidays
Although not normally associated with wildlife, Japan has many wilderness areas and it is relatively easy to include a national park or reserve when visiting the country. Yatsu-Higata Nature Observation Centre, close to the capital and Tokyo Bay, is a wetland area that offers good bird watching, is an important stopover for migrating birds and has large populations of plover and sandpiper. The Japanese Alps are the location of two important reserves, Kamikochi National Park and Jigokudani Park – the latter home to the famous Japanese macaque ‘snow’ monkeys whilst, in the south of Japan, at certain times of year it is also possible to whale watch off the coast of Kochi. Every Japan wildlife tour that we design is one-off, memorable and special.
